I’m on day eight of my weight loss journey where sugar and flour have been ceremoniously shown the door, and I won’t lie—it feels like an eternity and not of the blissful kind. I find myself pining for the soft embrace of bread, the sweet allure of donuts, cookies, and all their delicious friends. My mind, ever the enabler, has tried to coax me into straying off the path, whispering that “one little treat” couldn’t possibly ruin my progress in the grand scheme of things. And technically, that is true—a single 300 calorie donut is a mere drop compared to my daily or weekly calorie consumption, provided the donut is enjoyed in moderation, say once or twice a week. But therein lies the catch—for me, one donut inevitably paves the way for a full-fledged, daily donut party, and I find myself powerless to resist. I’m convinced I have a full blown sugar addiction, whether or not the experts recognize it as an actual addiction. After all, I know my body best and have observed how different diets impact me. So, here’s to standing my ground against the siren call of sugar and flour, one day at a time, until the cravings subside.
