Help, I’m struggling with food addiction!

Ever since I succumbed to a homemade blueberry muffin a few weeks ago (read here), I’ve been caught in a relentless cycle of attempting to quit sugar, only to find myself surrendering to it again. My self control seems to have slipped through my fingers, and I’m trapped in a pattern of overeating that leaves me feeling uncomfortable yet unable to stop.

The volume of junk food I’ve been consuming daily is nothing short of alarming. Here’s a snapshot of a typical day:

Pre-breakfast: 2 plain donuts with coffee, 3 creams (636 cal)

Breakfast: 3 slices of bacon, 2 eggs, and 2 toasts with butter (340 cal)

Lunch: McDonald’s Big Mac combo with poutine and Sprite (907 cal)

Snack: A full package of 6 Kinder chocolate bars and black tea (720 cal)

Dinner: Half a large pizza, fries, and diet ginger ale (1160 cal)

Snacks: 1 big bag of chips and diet ginger ale (750 cal); 3 chocolate chip cookies (480 cal)

The total comes to an astonishing 4,993 calories! No wonder I’ve been gaining weight.

What makes the situation almost humorous is that as I consider my options for regaining control, I find myself indulging in the very thing I’m trying to avoid. As I plan my next strategy to quit sugar, I’m simultaneously savoring a piece of chocolate dipped in tea, melting it just so before I take a bite.

I’m well aware that I need help, but the idea of returning to food addicts anonymous feels like a step I’m just not ready to take again. I’m caught in this whirlwind, and I’m not sure how to escape it.
