It’s a real question: do you ever feel genuinely fat? I’m not alluding to those skinny women who theatrically declare, “Oh, I feel so fat!” when they don’t have an ounce of excess body fat, making you feel an almost irresistible urge to respond with more than just words. No, I’m referring to a state where undeniable evidence of your weight stands starkly in front of you, often shattering the relatively flattering self-image you’d held until then.


I remember with vivid clarity the moment I realized that I weighed more than a French door refrigerator (which weighs around 330 lbs).

The enormity of my situation hit me even harder when I realized that it would require the strength of two men and a dolly to transport me, a frightening prospect should there be a sudden need for an emergency evacuation or medical assistance. Good luck, boys!


So why am I revealing these deeply personal details? The answer is twofold: firstly, if you’ve ever felt this way, I want you to know that you’re not alone (and chances are you probably don’t weigh near the size of a fridge). Secondly, it’s absolutely crucial to be brutally honest with yourself. Sometimes we imagine ourselves as overweight when we’re not, but if tangible proof stands before you, there’s no point in sugar-coating the truth. Confronting reality is the initial step toward either acceptance or a decision to make a change.


This, then, is my personal reminder, a mental note that I summon when my brain tries to tempt me into grabbing that enticing donut to pair with my coffee, promising me that I can always ‘restart the diet tomorrow’. It’s a resounding ‘No!’ from me, thank you.
